ROLLING HILLS ASYLUM
Rolling Hills Asylum in East Bethany, New York, began in 1827 as the Genesee County Poor House, a county-run facility that housed people who were poor, elderly, orphaned, widowed, mentally ill, or otherwise unable to support themselves. An infirmary was added in 1938, and the property became the Genesee County Nursing Home in 1964, remaining in operation until its closure in 1974.
THE CASE
Today, Rolling Hills is widely associated with reports of shadow figures, disembodied voices, unexplained footsteps, apparent EVPs, objects moving or being disturbed, and other unexplained phenomena. Specific areas have their own legends, including the Shadow Hallway, the morgue, and rooms associated with former residents such as Roy Crouse, a man said to have been more than seven feet tall.
